Board of Adjustment
Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board responsible for ruling on appeals, variances, and special uses in the City limits and Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).
  • When they meet: The Board of Adjustment meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Business Development Authority
The Business Development Authority is a non-profit corporation that promotes the health, safety, morals, right of gainful employment, industrial and commercial opportunities and general welfare of the community. The Authority consists of a board of directors appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

Central City Revitalization Panel
The Central City Revitalization Panel was created by the City Council on July 10, 2000 to administer a program utilizing financial incentives to encourage improvements and preservation within the central city boundaries of the City of Rocky Mount.

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for protecting the heritage of the City by preserving districts and landmarks that embody important elements of its culture, history, and architectural history.
  • When they meet: The Historic Preservation Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Housing Appeals Board & Animal Control Appeals Board
The Housing Appeals Board hears appeals resulting from any decision or order of the Housing Code Inspector.
The purpose of the Animal Control Appeals Board is to hear appeals from decisions or orders of the Chief of Police made pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 4 of the City Code entitled "Animals."

Housing Authority
The purpose of the Housing Authority is to provide decent, safe and sanitary low rent housing for low income families who cannot afford private housing.

  • When they meet: The 2nd Tuesday, every other month (February, April, June, August, October, December) at 4:30 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Housing Authority Main Office, 1006 Aycock Street, Rocky Mount.

Human Relations Commission
The Human Relations Commission was created for the purpose of promoting, understanding, respect and harmony among all people.

  • When they meet: The 2nd Wednesday of each month (except July & August), at 4:00 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Conference Room #1 on the Second Floor of the Municipal Services Complex.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission was created for the purpose of organizing programs and activities honoring the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and for promoting unity among the diverse populations within the Rocky Mount community.

  • When they meet: The 3rd Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Committee Room on the Third Floor of the Municipal Services Complex.

Mayor's Commission on Persons With Disabilities
The purpose of the Committee is to serve as a formal and continuing means to make the community aware of the needs and abilities of the handicapped, to encourage the involvement of the handicapped in the daily activities of the community by promoting their gainful employment, removing architectural barriers, and by acting as an education, public relations, and advisory agency to both individual handicapped citizens and the community at large to the end that the skills of all citizens are used the fullest extent.

  • When they meet: The 4th Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at 4:00 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Conference Room #1 on the Second Floor of the Municipal Services Complex.

Planning Board
The Planning Board advises the City Council on planning and zoning matters to assure that planning and development in Rocky Mount will occur in a coordinated and harmonious manner.

Redevelopment Commission
The Commission exists and operates for the public purpose of acquiring and replanning blighted areas within the Corporate Limits of the City of Rocky Mount and of holding or disposing of properties in such a manner that they become available for economically and socially sound development.

  • When they meet: The 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Conference Room #2 on the Second Floor of the Municipal Services Complex.

Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport Authority
The Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport Authority is ultimately responsible for the management, operation and control of the Rocky Mount Wilson Airport.

Transportation Advisory Committee
The Transportation Advisory Committee was established in August of 1992, after the City of Rocky Mount was designated as an urbanized area as a result of the 1990 census. In order to qualify for Federal-aid Highway Funds, the U.S. and North Carolina Departments of Transportation require urbanized areas to establish a formal planning process that is continuing, comprehensive and cooperative and to appoint a committee to oversee the program.

Tree Advisory Board
The Tree Advisory Board was created for the purpose of making recommendations to the City Manager relative to trees and shrubbery on City property.

  • When they meet: The 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m.
  • Where they meet: Conference Room #1 on the Second Floor of the Municipal Services Complex.
