Loose Leaf Collection
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Loose leaf collection will run again for four weeks in March. Public Works crews will hit the north route the weeks of March 1-5 & March 15-19 and the south route the weeks of March 8-12 & March 22-26. Rake your leaves to the curb & not into the street, and have your leaves at the curb by Monday morning of your collection week. Crews won't necessarily come through the same day as your garbage & recycling collection.
Pothole Repairs & Roadway Maintenance
Friday, February 12, 2010
As a result of the snow and ice event on January 30th and extended cold weather since this event, the number of potholes in the city limits have dramatically increased.  Depending on the location, pothole repairs are handled by the City or the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
Roadways such as Sunset Avenue, Winstead Avenue, Wesleyan Boulevard, East Grand Avenue, Raleigh Road, George Street, and Raleigh Street are state maintained roadways and maintained by the NCDOT.  Potholes on these roadways should be reported to the NCDOT at 459-2762.

Potholes on local residential streets are the responsibility of the city and are maintained by the City of Rocky Mount Public Works Department.  Please report potholes in these locations to the Streets Division at 467-4906.

If you are unsure on whether the roadway is city or state maintained, please report the location to the Streets Division.  Locations involving state maintained roadways will then be forwarded to the NCDOT for repair.
Public Works Announcement
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Due to the road conditions, garbage and recycling collection crews were not able to complete the entire route for Tuesday.  Every effort will be made to service containers that were missed today before the end of the day tomorrow, February 3.  In the event that conditions prevent collection tomorrow, service will be provided by the end of the week.  Yard waste and bulk items may not be collected on your regular collection day this week, but they will be collected by the end of the week.  The City appreciates your patience as Public Works crews continue to work to clear the roads while maintaining other city services.
