Loose leaf collection gets underway

The city of Rocky Mount’s Public Works and Water Resources Department will soon offer its popular, annual program. Loose leaf collection will take place starting Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 and extend through the week of Dec. 18. During loose leaf collection, crews will collect loose leaves and pine straw every other week on designated north and south routes.

Loose leaves and pine straw must be in piles behind the curb or on the shoulder of the road, ready for collection by 7 a.m. on the Monday morning of your designated collection week.

When participating in loose leaf collection, please also remember the following: Do not rake leaves or yard waste into the curb or street. Crews will pass by each house on the route only once during the week and not necessarily on the resident's regular solid waste collection day. All loose leaf piles must be free of trash, sticks, limbs, bottles, cans and other debris.

Jonathan Boone, director of Public Works and Water Resources, says loose leaves will be picked up during inclement weather; however, more time for pickup may be required.

The city’s fall Loose Leaf Collection program is intended to serve as a convenience for homeowners with leaves to rake in the fall,” says Boone.
