Programs & Services
The Division of Senior Programs provides endless learning and recreational/leisure opportunities for adults 50 or older to age actively. In addition we serve as an information and referral service hub for the older adult community. Our programs and services are broken up into the following categories.
Monday Night Mixers (NEW!)
Description: Exercise using different dancing techniques like MixxedFit, Zumba, Flirty Fitness, and Gospel Aerobics
Level: Intermediate

Zumba® (NEW!)
Description: Easy to follow group dance fitness fun for all with a Zumba certified instructor.
Level: Intermediate

MixxedFit (NEW!)
Description: A mixture of Zumba, Aerobics, and Line Dancing
Level: Beginner

Silver Sneakers
NEW to the Rocky Mount Senior Center is Silver Sneakers. SilverSneakers by Tivity Health provides access to seniors 65+. Seniors who qualify for Silver Sneakers will have access to Water Aerobis, Zumba Gold, Senior Stretch, Sweatin' to the Oldies, Body Craze, YogaLike, our Fitness Area, and the pool.

Body Craze
Description: Low impact with high intensity, strengthen and tone your body, plus build endurance and balance. Come ready for a work-out and leave feeling strong.

Line Dancing
Description: Feel the beat and move your feet! All levels welcome!

Senior Stretch
Description: Stretch and exercise techniques to work joints and muscles while seated in a chair and standing.

Sweatin' to the Oldies
Description: This class is aerobic based with rhythm. Exercise to your favorite oldies music!
Level: Intermediate

Water Aerobics
Description: 45 minutes of instructor-led, low impact exercise in the shallow water in our heated pool.
Level: Beginner
Days, Dates, Times: Mon - Wed 9:00am, first & third Saturdays 7:30am
Aqua Hit
Description: A more intense workout in the water focusing on using water weights & resistance.
Level: Intermediate
Days, Dates, Times: Tuesdays 9:00am
Aqua Zumba
Description: Zumba in the Water! Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance. This class offers less impact on your joints because of the water.
Level: Beginner

YogaLike
Description: Yoga-like class focuses on stretching and easing stress to build your core body strength.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Zumba Gold
Description: Zumba Gold is a modified version of a Zumba® class. The class a lower-intensity, but you will sweat. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.

Stability Class
Description: Exercise to help keep your balance and steady on your feet. Focusing on muscle elasticity & durability specifically for balance.

Trips
Day Trips: Can be found on our monthly calendar! We visit various local, regional and national locations such as, museums, novelty shops, restaurants, farmer's market, NC coast, NC mountains just to name a few.
Overnight & International Trips: For further information on dates and cost please visit the center or call 972-1152.
Education & Presentations
There is a year-round computer class available, you must register in person at the Senior Center. We also have scam alerts, Lunch & Learns, fire & home safety, diabetes classes, fall prevention, various health screenings, and more throughout the year.
Special Events
Annual and seasonal events such as Christmas Lights Tour, Christmas Gala Luncheon, Ice Cream Social, Dinner Theatre, Dances, Black History Celebration Luncheon, Veterans' Luncheon, Senior Tea Party, Summer Blast, National Senior Health & Fitness Day and many more.
Drop-In & Socialize
Walking, computer lab, library, horseshoe, shuffle board, TV/lounge, Bingo, and cards.
Clubs & Leagues
Our clubs and leagues that are weekly or monthly include bowling, pinochle and book club. As part of our commitment to be a "center without borders" the division serves as a liaison to several local clubs for individuals 50 or older. Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, socialize, and learn about senior issues and happenings. Clubs usually meet once a month. For more information contact the Senior Center.
