METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO)
The Transportation Advisory Committee will review the Comprehensive Transportation Plan 2040 at its September meeting. The Draft CTP has been in development for two years by the MPO staff and stakeholders. The CTP is a long-range multi-modal plan that covers transportation needs and requests of the MPO through the year 2040.
The Draft STIP is expected late this year. This is the resulting product of the Prioritization 4.0 process administered by the NCDOT SPOT group. The process follows the guidelines of the North Carolina law, Strategic Transportation Investment (STI). The TAC completed the assignment of local points to proposed projects within the MPO. The Draft STIP will reveal which of the proposals advance into project development.
Unfortunately, the Rocky Mount TIGER Grant application was not selected in round eight. The Secretary of USDOT announced the 40 winning communities in July. A total of 585 communities applied for the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant. The City will reassess its plans if a TIGER round nine is announced. Meanwhile the City is investigating other means of implementing aspects of the proposed TIGER project.
Several transportation planning studies have been completed by consulting firms for the City of Rocky Mount. These studies have been posted here on the MPO website.
