The City of Rocky Mount has been awarded the opportunity to host members of the AmeriCorps VISTA program. VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. Today, more than 46 million Americans live in poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA taps the skills, talents and passion of more than 7,000 Americans annually to support community efforts to overcome poverty. The City of Rocky Mount VISTAs will help to address poverty-related issues while working closely with various City departments including the Manager's office, Community Development, Human Relations, and Parks & Recreation.
Neighborhood Associations Resource Builder VISTA
The Neighborhood Associations Resource Builder (NARB) will develop a recruitment and retention strategy for neighborhood groups. The NARB will also design a leadership training for new participants to the neighborhood groups. The NARB will also research grants and other resources for neighborhood groups and assist neighborhood groups build capacity for programs supporting low-income community members. Conetoe Family Life Center VISTA
The Conetoe Family Life Center VISTA will help to formalize the data collection process to document outcomes related to agribusiness/agriculture, youth development, healthy living and bee operations. The creation of a formalized process will help add capacity to the Conetoe Family Life Center by putting systems in place to better capture information. The VISTA will develop forms, databases, surveys and other data collection tools for the use of the Conetoe Family Life Center. Apply HERE by January 4th!
Senior Center Services Catalyst VISTA
The Rocky Mount Senior Center offers several programs for the elderly population in the City, but would like to expand their services beyond the building. This effort is known nationally as a “center without borders” concept. The Senior Center Services Catalyst will research, evaluate, expand, and develop existing and future programs to bring resources and eliminate barriers for low income seniors in the community.
