Fall kicks into gear at the Imperial Centre

Autumn is in full gear in the Arts Education Building at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences. With returning favorites and new classes, the autumn season has something everyone will fall for.

Family Arts Sundays and Mommy + Me Arts return for the fall lineup. A collaboration between the art gallery and the Arts Education Department, Family Arts Sundays aim to engage families visiting the Imperial Centre. Every Sunday through Dec. 15, a teaching artist works with visitors of all ages throughout the afternoon to create original artwork. Family Arts Sundays are free and occur from 2 - 4 p.m.

Mommy + Me Arts returns Oct. 9 – Nov. 20 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The Wednesday morning class invites children ages 2-8 and their caregivers to explore a variety of art materials, experience new textures, improve fine motor skills and enjoy being creative together.

From Oct. 11 - Nov. 22, students ages 7-13 will experiment with clay in a new program, Clay Arts Afterschool, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Young artists will learn the techniques of construction and forming through wheel throwing and handbuilding. Class size is limited to 20 students and registration is required by Sept. 13. The cost is $100 for city residents and $150 for non-city residents.

Experiment with handbuilding techniques to create a range of sculptural and functional clay pieces during Handbuilding in Clay Mondays, Sept. 16 – Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Students must be 12 years or older and the cost is $138 for city residents and $207 for non-city residents. A separate Handbuilding in Clay will be offered from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Mondays beginning Oct. 14 – Dec. 2 at a cost of $180 for city residents and $270 for non-city residents.

Returning lunchtime favorite, Talk & Draw will give participants the opportunity to look, respond and interact with artwork on display in the Imperial Centre from 12 – 1 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 19, Oct. 17 and Nov. 21. The sessions are free.

The pirouettes will turn Oct.14 - Nov. 12 on Mondays and Tuesdays during Ballet: Flexibility & Tumbling. Costs for ballet for children under 12 are $87 for city residents and $131 for non-city residents. The adult class is $152 for city residents and $228 for non-city residents.

Family Workshops return on Saturdays Sept. 28 and Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 from 12 p.m.- 3 p.m. Sessions are Acrylic Painting, Sculpt Clay and Weaving Textiles, respectively. Costs are $20 for a family of three, and ages vary depending on the activities.

Other learning experiences include Wheel Throwing, Plaster Sculpture Workshop, Painting in Color and much more.
