OUTDOOR PROGRAMS

The City of Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Department's Outdoor Recreation Division was created in the Summer of 2003 with the mission of providing "innovative outdoor leisure opportunities which promote physical activity, develop skills and build awareness of our natural environment". In order to fulfill this mission, the Outdoor Recreation Division offers a variety of classes, excursions and events to individuals as well as groups.

Ropes Challenge and Team Development Course

The Ropes Challenge and Team Development Course is the perfect opportunity for Corporate, Church and other group leaders that are seeking challenging, team building activities in a safe, supportive environment. The course is not a military or a television reality-series obstacle course designed to defeat an individual or group, but rather a series of wood, cable and rope elements created at ground level (low elements) and 30-40 feet in the trees (high elements) that require personal effort and group cohesion to complete. All activities are "Challenge by Choice" meaning any individual may opt out at any time. The purpose of the course is to develop teamwork, not frighten individuals. Qualified course facilitators accompany each group through the course, ensuring safety and customizing the events to meet the needs and desired outcomes of the group. The course is designed to accommodate groups of 8-20 participants, but may accommodate larger groups with adequate notification. The low course is available during day light hours, the high course is available both day and night! The course is available seven days a week by appointment only. The fee for either the low or high course (4 hours) is $200 for the first 10 participants and $15 each thereafter. The fee for both the high and low course (8 hours) is $400 for the first 10 participants and $15 each thereafter.
