Energy Resources
The City of Rocky Mount is a nationally recognized Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) and a recipient of the Gold designation in the System Operation Achievement Recognition (SOAR) program. The RP3 award is given by the American Public Power Association to cities that provide the highest degree of safe and reliable electric service. The SOAR award is given by the American Public Gas Association to public gas utilities that demonstrate excellence in worker safety, workforce development, system integrity and system improvement.

Divisions
As a community-owned electric and natural gas system, the goal of Energy Resources is to provide safe, efficient, and reliable electric and natural gas services to all customers. The Energy Resources department provides the following services:
Electric Division: Services include the construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system, the area light program, and the tree trimming program.
Engineering Division: Services include maintenance of department facilities, substations and services provided by staking engineers..
Gas Division: Services include the construction, operation and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system.
Energy Services Division: Services include electric meters, load management and dispatch operations.
